The Newest Flower Girl and Honeymoon Stuff
First off, welcome Elizabeth Shea Hensel (The newest flower girl!) She was born on October 11, 2005 at 7:30 AM. Isn't she beautiful? Alicia, Matt, and Collette are all doing great and are at home.
Second, Ryan and I have been disagreeing on the honeymoon for a while now; so on Sunday we decided to do a little research. We went to Barnes and Nobles, sat on the floor and looked through Frommer's, Fodor's and any other guidebooks we could find, trying to decided on a place. I want Disney, he likes Williamsburg, I like Niagara Falls, he likes Montreal
So, after a lot of thought I think I came up with a good solution. I think we should put off the honeymoon until around August and go to Williamsburg. This way, I could go to Busch Garden's, he could do his history stuff, and we both love the beach, so we could do Virginia Beach and also maybe see the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on the way to Virginia. I figure the weekend of the wedding we could do like a Caesar’s or that Great Wolf Lodge indoor water park thing as a mini honeymoon so that way we feel like we went somewhere right after the wedding.
So that’s my thought. If anyone has any other ideas for places or if you think this idea is completely stupid let me know. One thing, I am a little afraid of flying but wouldn’t be against it, if it was some place cool and cheap. Remember, we are trying to do a low key honeymoon because we are also trying to buy a house, so some place like Hawaii is probably out, unfortunately.

Who goes to "historical sites" on their honeymoon? It's just weird.

Sandy- As far as cheaper in November, we figured maybe to compensate for the higher priced we could stay at a cheaper hotel. Right after the wedding we would want a Honeymoon Suites in August maybe we culd just get a regular suite. What do you think?

We did Williamsburg for our first anniversary. From there, we went to Virginia Beach, then took the Chesapeake Bay Bridge up to Ocean City, MD. I think it's a great idea. We had lots of fun that week. It was a little rainy while we were there so we skipped the rides. :( Of course, I have tons of pictures & will e-mail a few to you. You can post them, if you'd like.
I'll send you the tour guides I bought while we were there.
As for the mini honeymoon, I think I would skip Caesars. If their honeymoon suites are like the ones at Mt. Airy, they are a little corny. Matt & I did the room with the pool thing for our second anniversary. It was different, but not worth the money. Ask to tour the rooms before you book anything. Then you can decide if you want to spend time there.

Danielle did a Caesar's thing after her wedding... the one she stayed in *was* a little pricey in comparison to your average hotel room. However, her description of the place made it sound like a wild place to have a wedding night! A 2-story champagne glass hot tub, a massage table, a heart-shaped pool, sauna, fireplace, shimmering stars in the ceiling over the bed, etc. (http://www.caesarspoconoresorts.com/
default.aspx?pageid=3) Sounded like a good time to me!
You only have one wedding night...!! (although I know costs are certainly an issue) And yeah, the cheeziness of all that might not even appeal to you. But it was just a thought. ;)

I think Caesar's would be a little cheesy for me and Ryan. We actually stayed at a Caesars recently, but the room didn't have any of that stuff. It was a relatively normal room, but they have some much stuff to do there which was cool and it's all inclusive.
Ryan actually suggested Great Wolf Lodge (the indoor waterpark). I think that would be cool, to actually be on a water slide in the Poconos with snow on the ground!
Robin-Please send the tour guides. I'm pretty sure this will be what we actually do for the Honeymoon.

Great Wolf Lodge seems really cool for a nice honeymoon in november and then Virginia and historical Williamsburg is really nice. In regards to what Lawrence said I don't think it is weird to go to historical Virginia. It is just an example of one of the great places the United States has to offer.

Historical places are cool, in general. But for a honeymoon? Let us all imagine the following conversation:
"I love you. I am totally ready to spend the rest of my life with... Oh my God. Is that the place that George Washington and Thomas Jefferson had lunch that time?! I here they sent the venison back because it was undercooked. This is the best trip EVER!!"
No. I stand by my original statement. It sounds weird. I'm with Manda. Niagara, Disney, cruises. These places are were everyone goes. But that isn't bad. All it means is that they are professionals at it now. You go there, and tell them your on a honeymoon, and you'll get all types of upgrades for your room, maybe some free dinners, tickets to local shows (FREE STUFF). The standards are standards for a reason. They know from honeymoons. And plus, if you go to the standards, you can probably just stop thinking the minute you tell them your newlyweds, because they will have everything that has to be done ready and waiting (at least a little bit). Then you guys can enjoy the trip. Which is the point.
So, in conclusion,
Vacation + Thinking= School= Bad
Vacation + Vacation= VACATION= Point of trip. Thank you.

I hate to break it to you, but those free upgrades are only in the movies & on tv. Real life just doesn't work that way. It's sad, but true.
Matt & I did the first part of our honeymoon in Niagara Falls. No free upgrades, trinkets, etc. The only freebie was a "Honeymoon Certificate" that they probably had made at the local Office Max. We sat in the same rooms as families on vacation & tourists from other countries. No secluded corners or romatic hideaways. And we went to a variety of places, from the Skylon to the Hard Rock.
The second part of our honeymoon was at Cooperstown, NY. Yes, we went to the baseball hall of fame for our honeymoon. We stayed in a cute little inn & it toured the hall of fame & it was great.
The important part of the honeymoon is spending time alone as a couple to actually become a couple. It's hard to comprehend until you do get married, but there is a big difference between being "Amanda & Ryan" and being "Amanda & Ryan - married couple." And you need the time away from family and friends to become that couple. The relationship is a living thing that has a life of its own. Your honeymoon is the birth of that relationship. (But I'm really getting corny on you.)
Anyway, it is important for you to do what's right for you as a couple. Each couple is different. For some, the ideal is a very crowded & touristy place like Niagara Falls. For others, it may be a secluded hotel in Maine.
And you will be going out & taking in the sights on your honeymoon. That's all part of growing your relationship. Please don't get caught up in the whole "honeymoon aura" created by tv & movies. It just doesn't work that way.
