Reception Sites

Now that we have the church, we need a reception site. This is where we are having problems. There are two possible places and we like both, The Sterling Inn and The Water Gap Country Club.

Both have Pros and Cons

-The Water Gap Country Club does receptions for 4 hours; Sterling Inn does receptions for 5 hours

-The Sterling Inn has very pretty surroundings, but I think the surroundings at Water Gap Country Club are nicer.

-Both are comparable in price.

So any help is greatly appreciated. If you've been to one or the other, or even heard anything one way or another about either place please comment to us and let us know.

  • The Water Gap Country Club is a hotel as well, but they don't offer a discount to wedding guests, the Sterling Inn does.

  • From the pictures you posted, I think the Water Gap Country Club looks stately, while the Sterling Inn looks cozy. What type of atmosphere are you going for?

I assume the SI hosts one wedding at a time. How many weddings does the WGCC host at once? You want your event to be the only event they are concentrating on that day. Just think back to what it was like when Lake Naomi was hosting one event at the Clubhouse while a second event was taking place simultaneously at Timer Trails.

Another thing to take into consideration: PICTURES. I speak from experience. The day passes quickly. You won't look at the video often. But you will look at pictures all the time -- both those around the house & in the album. How are the two locations for pictures? Think both inside & out because you may want some outdoor pictures, too. (I've seen wedding pictures with snow backgrounds & they are very pretty.) Do you want to take a picture of the two of you at the grotto near Mt. Airy? If so, the SI is the better choice because you'd be going pretty far out of your way for the WGCC. (Otherwise you could always do a picture of you & the bridesmaids at the grotto. There is a very pretty, log gazebo there.)

And Tiffany also has a valid point, weather-wise. Imagine navigating those curves in the ice!

Lastly, if it's a close call between the two places, make a list of the pros & cons of each location. It sounds simple until you actually put pen to paper. Then write out everything you want & expect from your reception. If one place meets more of your desires than the other, you're set.

  • I think Water Gap would have dinner going on downstairs, but thereception would be upstairs. I'm not sure about the Sterling Inn.

I don't know, I really like the Sterling Inn. It looks like you are having a reception at someones home, which I really like.

I know any decission we make has to come soon. I wish the Sterling Inn was closer or the Water Gap's reception was 5 hours then this whole thing would be a lot easier :)
